Nano-structured glass creates computer memory

We are sure come a long way to fry ants with a magnifying glass. Researchers at the University of Southampton to create nano-structures millimeter "monolithic glass spatial variation of the polarization converters," what changes in terms of how light passes through and is stored in the glass. These "clouds" of light data can be read as the information stored in optical fibers - based on "laser processing equipment more precise, the optical manipulation of atom-sized objects, the ultra-resolution image high and potentially accelerators, particle board. "(Does that mean that everyone get one of these at our desks?) The new five-dimensional approach is reusable, twenty times less expensive and more compact compared to older methods microscopy with a spatial light modulator, so it's a win-win.
